The Habit of Meditation
“Meditation is one of the great means of controlling the rising of these waves. By mediation you can make the mind subdue these waves, and if you go on practicing meditation for days, and months, and years, until it has become a habit, until it will come in spite of yourself, anger and hatred will be controlled and checked.” —Swami Vivekananda
(Indian Hindu monk, a chief disciple of the 19th-century Indian mystic Ramakrishna. Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission.) Lord Shiva : my deity, I used to pray, chant and meditate in my younger days. As I grew busy in life, I had no time to meditate, until 2018, when I got myself back to praying and meditating, it was and it is my morning ritual, a powerful habit which helps you focus on yourself and declutter your mind. With a calm mind, you experience a lot of clarity,
control your thoughts and release the worries.

Meditation helps one find peace of mind and get rid of all the negativities one gathered in the course of life. Initially, you can’t concentrate well, but if you make it a habit and practice every day you will reach deep levels of meditation. It is all about discipline and practice. We generally spend a large amount of time, ‘screen time’ as you may refer to it, on social media and get involved in events which aren’t as productive, instead, we can spare a minimum of five minutes practicing meditation and it
will maximize with time.
Meditation has many forms and types; it will depend on how one learns which kind/type of meditation is more suitable for oneself. Generally, many prefer practicing meditation in the morning, but one can meditate whenever one can have a few free minutes, it could be in the morning, afternoon
or before bed time. No one ever said you will have to leave your regular life and become a monk. Anyone and everyone can meditate. All you need would be just 5 minutes from your regular routine life, when you can be yourself, sit in a peaceful place, focus on the breathing, inhale and exhale.
Breathe in and imagine, you are inhaling love, joy, good health, happiness and peace, hold the breath for
3-5 seconds and release it through your mouth. The moment you are release the inhaled air you are
releasing all the worries, tensions, anxiety, fears, doubts, failure, all the negative thoughts and frustration. Breathe out heavily for your lungs to feel that light pressure. You can practice by focussing on one positive thought or any object you have in your mind. It is natural for one to get distracted as soon as one
starts to meditate. Thoughts and worries you carry will bother you, and that is perfectly fine, you will gradually learn to keep these distractions at bay and focus more on connecting with your inner self. Do not make yourself think, you can practice meditation, initiate with just ONE minute, slowly and steadily you can maximize the time, and one fine day you will find yourself connecting with the divine force.
As Zig Ziglar an American author and motivational speaker quoted, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” We all face challenges, especially when we have to quieten our rustling minds. Only with practice you will learn more about meditation.
